The City of Lier doesn’t seem to want the classical local sports hall: the tin, faceless black boxes that we so often see. Its prominent location on the grounds of the local primary school and near the historical moat around the city, asks for a commonplace that transcends its mere sports-hall-cafeteria functionality. We wish to exude the societal potential of program and location, binding athletes to the urban and school community. We molded the facade to become a somewhat iconic wrap that is open and inviting when it needs to be – practising sports becomes a visible, binding activity.
